1-Day Seminar on “Introduction to Data Analytics for Operational Excellence” By Prof Goh Thong Ngee

09 May 2019
9.00am – 5.00pm, Thursday
Venue: National University of Singapore

Seminar Description:

The age of “big data” owes its emergence to the prevalence of various forms of sensors and automatic data collection systems, and data constitutes an important source of information to decision makers. In operations, R&D or any investigative environment, a reverse requirement of purposeful data acquisition usually exists. This is due to the fact that the needed data is usually not available or inadequate, and system mechanisms are often not sufficiently understood or able to lend themselves to theoretical descriptions.
This short course aims at bringing to the investigators analytical tools most appropriate for studies of speculative, new, complex, or simulated systems or scenarios, stressing efficiency of information gathering as well as effectiveness of data interpretation, leading to general operational excellence. A practical, rather than theoretical, approach is taken in bringing out the principles and techniques throughout.

Learning Objectives

To understand the concepts, strategies and techniques of efficient data acquisition and utilization for optimal decision making.

Learning Outcomes

Participant will be able to appreciate and apply techniques of modern data analytics that are usually not covered in conventional academic curricula in institutions of higher learning.
